Proceq SA, Switzerland

Proceq manufactures high quality testing instruments for measuring the hardness of paper, film and foil rolls used in the Paper and Converting industries.

Proceq is the manufacturer of the Original SCHMIDT® Paper Roll Test Hammer and the PAROtester™2 instruments.

Incorrectly or inconsistantly wound rolls can create a wide range of problems to the processor - Out of round rolls, internal web bursts, ridges, baggy paper, corrugations.........

The Proceq PAROtester 2 enables the fast, accurate and repeatable evaluation of roll hardness across the outer surface of the roll.

The hardness of paper rolls is an important quality factor in the working processes of the paper, film and foil industry.

Rolls that are too hard or too soft, rolls that are unevenly wound, or rolls with different moisture content can cause difficulties during the printing process.

The PAROTESTER 2 Roll Hardness Tester allows for an objective and quick evaluation of the roll hardness, the hardness profile and the variation in hardness of paper, foil and film rolls.

Automatic loading and unloading of the impact body results in fast and repeatable tests with more resolution than the commonly used ORIGINAL SCHMIDT hammer test.

The PAROTESTER 2 Impact Devices are also designed for long service life, unlike the Schmidt Hammers that need to be re-calibrated after every 1,000 impacts.

User-friendly electronics with a large LCD display of the measuring data with statistical values adds to the benefits of the PAROTESTER 2 Roll Hardness Tester.

Data can be printed out immediately on the optional RS-232 printer. Information (about 5,000 single measurements) can be stored internally wih individual roll identification and can be sent to a PC or printed via the RS-232 connection.

Original SCHMIDT for Paper Rolls

The ORIGINAL SCHMIDT® Type L Roll Hardness Test Hammer is based on the principle of rebound measurement and is very simple in its handing.

The impact plunger of the instrument is pressed against the paper roll which compresses a spring. After reaching a certain point, the spring is released and an internal hammer mass is launched against the impact plunger. The amount of hammer mass rebound depends on the hardness of the test piece. This rebound amount is then shown on a scale of 10 to 100. Test intervals of 5 to 10 cm across the whole width of the roll will give the values for the Hardness-Profile within a short period of time. The testing is non-destructive with exception of very light marks that the instrument leaves on the top two or three layers. Such “Hardness-Profiles” will show immediately whether the rolls have the neccessary consistancy. Rolls that are too soft, or rolls with inconsistent hardness are immediately recognized and can be rejected before the actual insertion in the press.
