"Oranges and Lemons...." Test Kits for Fruit from "Results Now

DON'T COMPARE YOUR APPLES WITH ORANGES! (Or Pineapples with Tomatoes).

Acidity in fruit is an important factor in determining maturity. Many fruits have high acidity early in the season, making them unacceptable to consumers, even though they meet minimum Brix (sugar) standards. Several fruits have specific Brix/acidity maturity standard required for domestic or export commerce.

RESULTS NOW Titratable Acidity tests in kits of 10 and 20 tests are available in the following configurations:

% Citric Acid in Cranberries              Range 1.6 - 3.6%

% Tartaric Acid in Table Grapes        Range 0.4 - 0.9%

% Citric Acid in Oranges                   Range 0.8 - 1.4%

% Citric Acid in Tomatoes                Range 0.34 - 1.0%

% Citric Acid in Lemons and Limes    Range 4.0 - 6.2%

% Citric Acid in Grapefruit                Range 1.2 - 2.0%

% Malic Acid in Apples and Pears     Range 0.36 - 0.8%

% Citric Acid in Pineapples              Range 0.70 - 1.60%

In development are specific TA tests for Mangos and Strawberries. If anyone has a need for tests for other fruit, please let us know and we shall endeavour to have specific tests developed.

Paper Change in Leneta 5DX and 2DX Charts

We have been advised by The Leneta Company that, to get a needed improvement in the quality of the paper used for making forms 5DX and 2DX, they have had to change paper suppliers.

This has resulted in a slightly lower Y-reflectance in the new paper than that in the old paper.

The new batch 3423 using the new paper has an approximate Y-reflectance of 83, whereas the “current” batch 3304 has an approximate Y-reflectance of 87.

For most users, the difference in reflectance should have no effect on paint test results.

However, in cases where the test paint is not applied at full hiding, an effect on hiding power or opacity measurements may be observed due to the increased reflectance of the white area.

It is Leneta’s experience that the more critical hiding power measurements are usually carried out on charts such as 2A, 2C and 3B. However, some customers do use 2DX and 5DX for this purpose.

If you would like to receive some samples of the new batch to test, please let us know, and we will send these to you.
