Motic was created in 1988 as a high-tech industrial enterprise specializing in the manufacturing of conventional compound microscopes. Owned by Speed Fair Co. Ltd, the company has grown into a global family consisting of Financial, Administration and International Marketing offices in Hong Kong together with  sales offices in the United States, Canada, Germany and Spain.

In early 1998 the company started to explore and develop the manufacture of digital microscopy solutions, digital imaging products and application software. This successful transition marked a milestone for the company turning Motic into one of the leading brand names in digital microscopy.

Motic has an established R&D centre in Xiamen with over 100 professional engineers and technicians covering industrial design, mechanical, optical, electronics, software and multi-media aspects. The manufacturing base is certified ISO9001 and ISO14000.
